Future Fears: Will the 2024 4 Runner Meet Your Expectations?

For 2024, the respected 4Runner enters its sixth generation with a new platform, loads of tech, and capable hybrid powertrains. So, let’s dive straight into the details!

The new 2024 4Runner will share Toyota’s new truck platform with the Tundra, Sequoia, and recently revealed Tacoma. This new platform is set to build on its strengths while addressing the 4 Runner’s shortcomings; (what few there are.)

Starting under the hood, we expect the new 4Runner to share powertrains with the upcoming Tacoma. That means finally replacing the ancient 4-liter V6 and 5-speed automatic with a 2 point 4 liter 4 cylinder with either 228 or 270 horsepower and 248 or 310 lb-feet of torque, depending on trim level. The engine will be backed by an 8-speed auto.

We expect top-line TRD Pro models to come standard with the hybridMAX powertrain revealed on the Tacoma that makes 326 horsepower and class-leading 465-pound feet of torque. This 4Runner will give the Bronco Raptor and Wrangler 392 a serious run for its money based on power figures alone. The TRD Pro models will also feature FOX shocks and a whole slew of off-road-ready options.

The new 4Runner will genuinely shine when taken off the beaten path. Its rugged body-on-frame construction and skid plates offer protection against the elements and the capability for epic adventures. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System enhances wheel articulation, providing superior traction on uneven surfaces, and the Multi-Terrain Select system allows drivers to customize the vehicle’s settings to match various off-road conditions, such as mud, sand, or rock. Additionally, the Crawl Control feature automatically adjusts throttle and braking, allowing drivers to focus solely on steering, making traversing difficult obstacles a breeze.

While the 4Runner is known for its off-road capabilities, this new model shouldn’t overlook modern technology and convenience features. Based on the 2024 Tacoma, the new 4Runner should have a large touchscreen infotainment system and Toyota’s suite of safety features, including forward collision warning, lane departure alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Despite its rugged nature, the 2024 Toyota 4Runner doesn’t compromise comfort. The spacious cabin provides ample headroom and legroom for front and rear passengers, ensuring a comfortable ride even on long trips. The seats are supportive and offer good visibility, while the available leather upholstery adds a touch of luxury. The rear cargo area is versatile, offering generous storage space and featuring a sliding deck to facilitate loading and unloading.

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is set to be a reliable and capable SUV that will live up to its off-road heritage. Its rugged design, new electrified performance, and advanced off-road dominance provide the necessary tools for adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Toyota is about to once again deliver a vehicle that combines versatility, capability, and comfort, making the new 4Runner an excellent choice.
